DownadUp - The reason behind all security software's update failure.

Anyone with a PC should know that there is a new worm out there which by some estimates has infected as many as one out of every three PCs worldwide. Known as Downadup or Conficker, it has spread rapidly despite attempts by Microsoft to issue updated security patches to its Windows operating system. The problem though is that there are many computers that do not have this Microsoft patch installed and this still makes them sitting ducks to the horrible Downadup infection.
Downadup can do some serious damage to your system. For one, Downadup changes your Window settings so that it can infect other PC’s that are over your network. Downadup can also make copies of itself each time that it reboots.
One of the most evil things that Downadup can do is to stop you from being able to visit many security websites so that you will have a hard time removing the infection.

Downadup Bad Behavior:

* Downadup may install without your consent.
* Downadup may install other types of spyware/adware.
* Downadup may compromise your privacy and security.
* Downadup may be difficult to uninstall.

Show Hidden Files and Folders Not Working?

Sometimes the show hidden files and folders stops working .If we select the radio button “Show hidden files and folders”, and then press ok,the changes would just disappear upon opening the dialog again.

It was probably some virus attack after which theWindows registry was not being updated properly. So here is what I did to restore it back. There are so many methods to restore back the registry. If one method is not working, please try another one.

Method 1:

Go to registry editor by running regedit in the run box.
Go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoft
WindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced

In the right hand area, double click hidden and change the value to 1.

Now you’re all set to go. Check it in your tools menu if the changes have taken effect.

Method 2:

1. Click “Start” -> “Run…” (or press Windows key + R)
2. Type “regedit” and click “Ok”.
3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
AdvancedFolderHiddenSHOWALL
4. Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key.
5. Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
6. The “Show hidden files & folders” check box should now work normally. Enjoy!

Method 3:

1- Click Start –> Run –> regsvr32 /i browseui.dll –> enter

A confirmation message will appear like given below

2- Click Start –> Run –> regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Wait for the confirmation and click OK.

Method 4:

If none of the above methods work, please download Smart Virus Remover from here:

Create A Fake File and Protect Pen Drive from Viruses.

The protection of pen drive from viruses, trojans etc. is a matter of utmost importance as they carry a lot of useful stuff in a small space. But if you are using your pen drive on public computers there are high chances that you can caught by viruses. So what will you do?
Well the basic concept that why virus attack the pen drives is that they contain some amount of free space which makes the virus to attck and copy itself in the drive and harm the executable files. So we are going to use only this concept, that is, we will fill up all the space with a fake file. To do this, you have to use a command known as fsutil.

FOR WINDOWS XP USERS

1) Know the free space of your pen drive by right clicking pen drive --> properties.

2) The highlighted rectangle is your free space.

3) Then open the command prompt and write the following code
fsutil file createnew O:\Fake 2609176576.
(NOTE: You must change the drive letter and space according to you)

4) The file will be created and you will see the following in the command prompt.

5) After the file is created again check the free space. It will appear like this

N.B :- Note that there are some limitations to this trick.
You can't delete anything from your pen drive after you have applied this trick as deleting some files from the pen drive would vacant some space,as a result viruses can attack your pen drive again.
Keeping it in mind you can use your pen drive in any computer.

ImgBurn - A good substitute of Nero

ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that everyone should have in their toolkit.

ImgBurn is an optical disc authoring software created by Lightning UK, the author of DVD Decrypter.

  • - Read a disc to an image file
  • - Create an image file from files on your computer or network - or you can write the files directly to a disc
  • - Write an image file to a disc
  • - Check a disc is 100% readable. Optionally, you can also have ImgBurn compare it against a given image file to ensure the actual data is correct
  • - Put your drive / media to the test! Used in combination with DvdInfoPro, you can check the quality of the burns your drive is producing

What's new in this version:

Version 2.5 adds An 'Advanced' input mode to build mode where you have total control over the layout of the disc and can add new folders, change names etc. and Optional logging when hidden or system files/folders are skipped in Build mode due to the current settings.

ImgBurn supports a wide range of image file formats - including BIN, CUE, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, ISO, MDS, NRG and PDI.

It can burn Audio CD's from any file type supported via DirectShow / ACM - including AAC, APE, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, PCM, WAV, WMA and WV.

You can use it to build DVD Video discs (from a VIDEO_TS folder), HD DVD Video discs (from a HVDVD_TS folder) and Blu-ray Video discs (from a BDAV / BDMV folder) with ease.

It supports Unicode folder/file names, so you shouldn't run in to any problems if you're using an international character set.

ImgBurn supports all the Windows OS's - Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and 7 (including all the 64-bit versions). If you use Wine, it should also run on Linux and other x86-based Unixes.

It's a very flexible application with several advanced features that are often lacking in other tools, especially when it comes to burning DVD Video discs. It supports all the latest drives without the need for updates (including booktype / bitsetting / advanced settings on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, LG, NEC, Plextor, Samsung, Sony).

There is an image queue system for when you're burning several images (which you can automatically share between multiple drives if you have more than one) and an easy-to-use layer break selection screen for double layer DVD Video jobs. The Automatic Write Speed feature allows you store your favourite burn speed settings on a per 'Media ID' basis, right down to a drive by drive level. Data captured during the burn (write speed, buffer levels etc) can be displayed or analysed using DvdInfoPro.

Whilst ImgBurn is designed to work perfectly straight out of the box, advanced users will appreciate just how configurable it is.

Oh and let's not forget the best thing about it.... it's 100% FREE

Microsoft's 100 % Free Security Suite (Only For Genuine Users)

Microsoft has now plunged into the free security software business with Microsoft Security Essentials. The company is concerned that not enough people are using protection on their PCs. However much they have tried to tighten security, they have never got the credit.

There is a long list of free anti-virus products led by AVG, but their main aim is to make you buy the paid version. Microsoft is not interested in opening a new revenue stream with Security Essentials. They had tried to sell a security software called One Care, but failed miserably. Now they just don’t want Windows to get bad publicity all the time with virus attacks.

Microsoft Security Essentials is already available. It provides real-time protection for your home PC and guards against viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is simple to install, easy to use and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you can use your Windows-based PC without interruptions.

I would recommend that you download this as quickly as possible because there are reports that only 75,000 downloads will be allowed in the first phase. The link is www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/default.aspx?mkt=en-us#dlbutton.

The minimum system requirements for Microsoft Security Essentials are:

Operating System: Genuine Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3); Windows Vista (Gold, Service Pack 1, or Service Pack 2); Windows 7

For Windows XP, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 500MHz or higher, and 256MB RAM or higher

• For Windows Vista and Windows 7, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 1.0 GHz or higher, and 1GB RAM or higher

• VGA display of 800x600 or higher

• 140MB of available hard disk space.

An Internet connection is required for installation and to download the latest virus and spyware definitions for Microsoft Security Essentials.

Internet Browser: Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or later.

N.B : Microsoft has confirmed that only those Windows users running genuine, validated copies will be able to download and install the new Microsoft Security Essentials Software.

The Director of Microsoft's Genuine Windows team, Alex Kochis, stated that, "During installation, you'll be asked to validate Windows running on your PC to make sure that it's genuine."
